Concept

In the coming years, a very special living space will be created in Karlsruhe – the District Future – Urban Lab, where sustainable urban life of the future will be tested and developed. For this purpose, a temporary experimental space is created in which new, promising social and technological innovations of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology as well as project ideas of Karlsruhe’s dedicated and creative urban society will be implemented and tested.

District Future – Urban Lab is a transdisciplinary project oriented towards the principles of sustainability, integrating ecological, social, economic, cultural, and institutional concerns. Its intention is a fruitful cooperation between science, politics, citizens, and the economy. In this unity, sustainable solutions are being developed which can serve as models for other European cities.
